McLaren P1 GTR is coming to a road near you, thanks to Lanzante
It may not be an official McLaren move, but thanks to British marque specialist Lanzante, you could soon be driving a 986bhp McLaren P1 GTR down your drive way.
The GTR as it stands is not exactly “road legal”, but Lanzante wants to change this. It’s still a racing car, but it has been converted for road use — you know, boring indicator stalks and brakes that aren’t horrible in traffic. So those who have purchased the GTR track monster can have them converted to accommodate groceries and a labrador.
It seems that there’s quite a few customers for Lanzante too, with over 40 of the cars sold already. Each retails for around US$3-million, so you can only imagine how much the conversion will set the owner back itself.
Autocar, who broke the story earlier today, notes that the cars will “initially be homologated for European and Middle Eastern road regulations, but that conversions to meet requirements in other parts of the world are being investigated.
Awaiting confirmation from Lanzante, Autocar also suggested that it isn’t quite sure what conversions need to take place to make the car legal.
The question does remain though: why on earth would you buy a GTR — a racing car — just to turn it into an everyday runabout? All we know is, that it seems a bit unfair to the McLaren P1 GTR.
