Ford Shelby Super Snake orders open in SA – here is the price
Ford South Africa has revealed the specification details and production numbers for the 2021 Shelby Super Snake, as well as its local price.
The car’s production coincides with the 98th anniversary of car tuner Carroll Shelby.
The Super Snake’s production number of 98 units corresponds to the anniversary. Meanwhile, only 25 units of the Shelby Speedster will be produced.
A Ford Mustang with a bite
The Shelby Super Snake starts in life as a standard Ford Mustang before it receives the Shelby conversion.
Changes to the exterior include aluminium widebody front fenders and a steel bonnet from Shelby’s Signature edition. Other changes include a rear spoiler, tail panel, diffuser, and Shelby louvered quarter windows with a dark tint.
Under the bonnet, the Super Snake packs a 5.0-litre V8 engine. Armed with a supercharger, the car produces 615 kW with power sent to the rear wheels.
As part of the Shelby conversion, the car receives an upgraded cooling system made up of a new radiator, aluminium tank, and heat exchanger. It also has a Borla exhaust system and 20-inch one-piece forged aluminium wheels.
Acceleration-wise, the car launches from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds.
On the Shelby Speedster, the convertible soft top is replaced by a hard top tonneau system. It also features unique striping and badging.
Every Super Snake features unique Carroll Shelby Mustang (CSM) numbering which is documented on the Official Shelby Registry.
