A new Yahoo! is nearly upon us, here’s what it might look like
Yahoo!’s home page is set for a radical redesign. And, according to AllThingsD, it’s nearing completion.
The design reportedly borrows heavily from Windows 8 as well as Flipboard and Pinterest, and could launch as early as next week.
That a new home page was high up on new CEO Marissa Mayer’s to do list. She was, after all, responsible for designing Google’s iconic search page.
The new Yahoo! page won’t be nearly as minimalist, retaining the extensive dashboard its users have become used to. AllThingsD reports however that there will be simplified icons for Yahoo!’s various properties, less text, and the option of extra personalization and social aspects.
That the above look, which is reportedly the most favoured, features a tiled, touch-screen aesthetic is hardly surprising. In a recent interview, Mayer described Yahoo! as veering toward a “mobile first” sensibility.
“Yahoo will have to be a predominantly mobile company,” she said.
You might also notice a distinct absence of ads in the new look, whereas they’re fairly prominent on the existing home page.
That doesn’t mean your future Yahoo! experiences are going to be ad free. Citing sources within the company, AllThingsD says that the ads might be baked into the tiled design.
