Google makes new logo, navigation bar official
We recently told you about an apparent new Google logo hidden in the latest update of Chrome Beta for Android. Well it’s real and yes, the internet giant has joined the likes of eBay and Microsoft in going flat with its new design.
Alongside the flatter design, Google has refined the color palette and letter shapes of the Google logo.
The new logo also comes along with a new search bar, in an apparent attempt to bring its users a more streamlined experience. “Regardless of your routine, getting around Google should be seamless, and once you’re inside an app, you don’t want any distractions,” the company says in an official blog post.
Among the new features of the navigation bar is a new app launcher, located at the top right of the screen. Anyone who uses an Android device or Chromebook will be familiar with the grid-like layout of the apps.
The design tweaks, especially toward the logo, don’t exactly represent a massive shift and are actually pretty consistent with what the company’s been doing with its products over the last little while.
We’re interested to see how long this kind of flat design will stay popular for though and how far it can evolve before it starts to seem, well, flat.
