SecurEnvoy’s ‘One Swipe’ method generates unique QR code for offline authentication
First, nude pictures were leaked and published on the internet and then almost five million Gmail passwords were leaked. It is no secret that something has to give, as it seems that all private information is floating about, ready to be stolen. SecurEnvoy, the inventor of tokenless two-factor authentication, has also been concerned by this for some years now and has come up with a solution.
The company will showcase these solutions in Nuremberg, Germany at the it-sa trade fair from the 7 to 9 October. Specifically its one-swipe method, a new technology that allows two-factor authentication even when users are offline, will be presented at the trade fair.
SecurEnvoy says that two-factor authentication is cumbersome to use and has thus developed a new way. It uses cellphones, which people carry with them for most times, making the process infinity more fluid.
With SecurEnvoy, users via text, email, voice call or soft token app can request the passcodes required for authentication. Plus a further option: the new One Swipe offline authentication function.
QR code resolves the issue
With the One Swipe method, proof of identity is provided by means of a PIN and a unique QR code. Only the correct combination of these allows for a successful log in. One swipe allows users to authenticate themselves in a network even when their mobile phone is out of reception. It happens by entering a PIN into the soft token interface — the mobile phone will then generate a single-use QR code, and scanned-in via mobile phone or webcam. The transmitted information provides conclusive evidence regarding the identity of the employee. This completes the network log in process.
“Our tokenless two-factor authentication method combines something that the user knows, e.g. his/her PIN, and something that he/she possesses, such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop,” comments Steve Watts, sales and marketing director at SecurEnvoy.
“In order to make such authentication possible even if the user is offline and has no mobile phone reception, we developed the One Swipe technology, which already works on the new iPhone 6. With One Swipe, the time and place from where the user logs in is now irrelevant. All users can flexibly and unambiguously authenticate themselves in their corporate network using a mobile device that they have with them anyway. This is an increasingly important aspect for employers in this age of increased remote working.”
