Mr Robot wins big at the Golden Globe Awards
At the Golden Globes last night, Mr Robot won the prestigious Best TV Series — Drama award and Christian Slater, who plays Mr Robot on the show, won Best performance by an actor in a supporting role for Television. Mr Robot is about a cyber security engineer, Elliot Alderson, who works for a firm called Allsafe during the day, and at night is a vigilante hacker working on behalf of a secret group called fsociety whose main goal is to take down a conglomerate called E Corp.
Since debuting on 24 June 2015 on USA Network, Mr Robot, portrayed hacking culture in its plot with precision and was not bound by stereotypes. The show spread through word of mouth and on the internet. Its popularity is an enigma, popular with both hacker fans and TV fans alike.
During the acceptance speech, the Egyptian born Sam Esmail, creator of Mr Robot, thanked the entire team that worked on the show, mentioning especially the brilliance of Rami Malek, who plays the lead character, Elliot Alderson. Malek did not win an award as a lead in a drama, losing out to Jon Hamm for Mad Men.

In the category of Best TV Series- Drama, Mr Robot went up against Fox’s Empire, HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Netflix’s Narcos and Starz’ Outlander. As you can see these are by no means bad or unpopular shows.
Mr Robot‘s win at the awards was largely due to Rami Malek’s somber, aloof and precise performance as Elliot Alderson and Tod Campbell’s faultless and unusual cinematography which is categorised by exaggerated head room and Dutch tilts.
Even when the story line was weak, with its sometimes convoluted narrative that often trips over its many plots and its underdeveloped characters, Rami Malek was magnificent as Elliot. He portrayed Elliot, with his social anxiety disorder, his trademark big eyes and black hoodie without a fault.
With Season 2 on the way, expected to debut later this year, Mr Robot fans can look forward to hopefully another great season. Season 1, a big part of it, up until the last episode in fact, was very much the exposition to story lines that can be developed in the next season.
