The continent’s first Comic Con took place in Johannesburg in mid-September. And while chatter suggested that local fans were excited, no one really knew just how many feet on the ground we’d see.

Now, the organisers have revealed the numbers.

Throughout the event, which took place between 14 to 16 September, more than 45 000 visitors reportedly made their way through Comic Con Africa’s gates.

While Telkom’s VS Gaming tournaments were one of the highlights, a number of cast members from American Gods, Vikings‘ Travis Fimmel, and Kevin Sussman from The Big Bang Theory were also in attendance.

“Africa’s inaugural Comic Con has wrapped up and it exceeded even our wildest expectations. The three-day gathering of gamers, cosplayers, pop culture fanatics and comic book enthusiasts has ignited a magical fire on the African continent,” noted Carol Weaving, the MD of Reed Exibitions — the show’s organiser.

Additionally, based on the success of 2018’s Comic Con Africa, Weaving confirmed that there will be a sequel come 2019.

“Based on this success we are very proud and excited to announce that we will be bringing Comic Con Africa back to Johannesburg in 2019,” she added.
