Instagram Threads: Facebook’s new ‘camera-first’ app for your closest friends
Facebook on Thursday officially revealed Instagram Threads, a new standalone “camera-first” app designed to keep Instagram friends connected.
The app allows users to share photos, videos, messages and Stories directly their close friends list on the platform, and also keeps them informed about each other’s activities with Status.
According to Instagram, Status is opt-in and does not share specific information. You can choose a pre-set status, make your own or have Threads automatically update “where you are without giving away your coordinates”.
“Messages from your close friends list will appear in both Threads and Direct, so you have full control over how and with whom you want to interact,” Instagram added on its blog.
You can also create a close friends list directly from Threads if you don’t have one on Instagram.
The new Snapchat-like app, which Facebook was reportedly testing back in August, is currently rolling out globally.
