Ackermans launches its first cell phone and tech retail stores in Gauteng
South African retailer Ackermans has launched its own standalone cell phone and technology store called Ackermans Connect.
The branches will be independent of the retailer’s clothing brands, offering customers devices from its own Premio smartphone brand as well as others phones from the likes of Nokia and Samsung.
Accessories will also be offered in store.
The company cites Premio’s success as the call to venture into the phone retail market.
“After the success of our own cellular brand, Premio, the next step in cellular was to launch our own standalone stores,” said Ackerman’s cellular manager Michael Grace.
“The concept had been in discussion for some time and in February this year we made the decision to move ahead with it.”
Just one Ackermans Connect store is officially open in South Africa, located in Vosloorus. Another is set to launch tomorrow in Germiston.
Grace notes that the company will “roll out a few more stores across the country by September 2020”.
He didn’t state where these new stores will be located.
