Eskom implements Stage 2 load shedding until 11pm Wednesday

eskom load shedding

Well, there’s some good news today. If you’ve been avoiding Twitter and news outlets for the past 24 hours, we’d understand. But Eskom today confirmed that it would be implementing Stage 2 until 11pm Wednesday.

That’s a massive relief, especially after the Stage 4 and Stage 6 drama of the past two days.

Eskom still has a massive shortfall though, but has clawed its way back from the 15 200MW yesterday morning. The amount unavailable capacity stands at 13 302MW as of 4.30am.

Still, that figures also a lot higher than it was on 2 December, a load shedding-free day. Just 9100MW was unavailable then.

“We continue to use diesel for our open cycle gas turbines and water at pumped storage schemes to supplement capacity,” Eskom said in a statement.

It also noted that any shift today could send us back into the depths of load shedding.

When is Eskom, your city or municipality load shedding?
