Google takes another look at Glass

Starting by connecting scuba goggles to a computer, Google Glass soon become the technological baby of the wearable world. Although the glasses took a bit of a back seat, with technology that makes your eye-wear as smart as a super computer, the glasses were taken off the shelves in January 2015. One has to admire Google’s attempt to blow everyone else out of the technology pool, taking a 10x VS 10% approach in tits advancements, perhaps we now see a beaming example of the much hated global over-achiever.

In an article posted one the Google+ account, the technology giant discusses the way forward for the Glass division.

“As we look to the road ahead, we realize that we’ve outgrown the lab and so we’re officially “graduating” from Google[x] to be our own team here at Google,” the post says. “We’re thrilled to be moving even more from concept to reality.”

Through a few awarded patents on design, Google has managed to craft a different perspective for the computer on your face. Although Google had teamed up with eye wear guru Luxottica and Dian Von Furstenberg, there was still an over powering nerdy square shaped theme to the eye wear. The lens computer chip also posed some interesting blind spots for the wearer, never mind the threat of potential muggings, a series of bans on wearing the Google Glasses in cars and other places ensued.

This time could be different for Google, looking at some of the sketches in their patent, perhaps the sleek and not so obviously nerdy Google Glasses are on their way to revolutionize the way we wear hardware. Quartz reported, “Google wasn’t immediately available for comment on its plans for the next generation of Glass. Since the start of the year, however, Google has been awarded 45 design patents for different sections of “wearable display” devices.”

Without a visible little optic device that normally sat in the corner of the wearers vision,  we hope by the power of all that is holy in the digital world, that we are looking at the beginning of augmented reality in glass. Autoglass has taken the lead in their 2020 vision of producing windscreens in cars that can read the outside world and present it on your windscreen as you drive. To maintain the sleek look that the sketchy patent describes, perhaps it’s up to an Apple side of life to put the eye wear through a aesthetic diet? Partnerships have definitely shown their true colours over the journey with the Google Glasses, between the Apple Watch and the Google Glasses flops, there is a need for a new approach to wearable technology.
