Google rolls out tap-in-emergency feature to its Phone app
Google on Friday revealed an emergency call feature coming to its Phone app on Pixel and “select” Android phones that will help users contact emergency services with the push of a button.
“Soon, you’ll be able to share information about the assistance you require, along with your location, to the emergency operator without speaking,” the company said on its blog.
Users will be able to choose from Fire, Medical and Police options on the app, which will make contact with the relevant department and “convey the type of emergency to the operator through an automated voice service”.
According to Google, the information shared stays between the emergency services and the user’s phone.
The emergency call feature will first roll out to Pixel phones in the United States over the next few months.
