Samsung Galaxy S III leaked images, specs — 22 May launch?

For Samsung in 2012, it’s all about the Galaxy S III and how it’s going to hopefully crush the iPhone 5. Numerous leaks this week have subtly confirmed various details regarding the new Samsung Galaxy S III, some predictable, some lusted-after. Let’s dig into the details.

Leak 1, care of Reddit

The first leak delivered a virgin image of the Samsung Galaxy S III. It’s the type of shot which wouldn’t be out of place on the official S III box, all smiling children and sunny skies in London. What we know about the S II, seemingly exists in the S III. Front facing camera for video calls? Check. Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich? It’s hard to tell from the image, but it would be foolish for Samsung to include Gingerbread in this, its flagship smartphone for 2012.

What piques our interest the most is the supermodel thinness of the S III. A side shot accompanies the leaked image and the phone seems as if it hewn from a razor’s edge. The image itself comes from Weber Shandwick, a PR firm Samsung often relies on.

Leak 2, from “anonymous tipster

Leak 2 is a little juicer, and a little more detailed specs-wise. Dutch site, GSM Helpdesk says that it not only managed to get an official image of the device, but the honest-to-god specs as well. If its sources are above the board, then we can look forward to a 4.8-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.5Ghz CPU, Ice Cream Sandwich OS (layered with TouchWiz UI) and weigh in at 125g in weight. As for memory, 32GB internal and 1GB RAM is promised. The SIII may also rock a “dual carrier HSPA” network, which can achieve speeds of 42Mbps and upwards.

Finally, launch date is a possible 22 May. So save those gold coins and look forward to Samsung’s hottest, fastest phone yet.
