Apple TV lands in South Africa
Apple has announced that South Africa will be the latest country Apple TV lands in come 18 January.
The product, which was launched in its current iteration alongside the third generation iPad, is meant to make it easy to enjoy iTunes video, music and photo libraries from your computer on your HD TV through iCloud.
It also allows you to access content purchased on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. iTunes Match customers can meanwhile now play their entire music library from iCloud — even songs they’ve imported from CDs. They can also control Apple TV with their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using the Remote app, available as a free download on the App Store.
The device will sell in the country for R1 099, which is around the equivalent of its US$99 price in the US. It will however be interesting to see how well it sells in a country where good bandwidth is at a premium.
Sales of the device haven’t been terrible (Apple says it sold 1.3-million in the fourth quarter of 2012), although the company still regards them as a hobby albeit, in the words of Tim Cook, “a beloved hobby”.
