Sony UK boss says PS4 console ‘not the most important thing’
Anyone who watched the live-stream of the PS4 launch last week, may have noticed a lack of what we deem important. Namely the PS4 console itself. While games, the new controller and the UI were on full show, the PS4 was absent. Sony UK president Fergal Gara calls this “not the most important thing”. Here’s what else Gara said, and what we think of his statement.
Videogamer.com tracked Gara down and discussed his issue regarding the lack of a PS4 console.
There was a bit of cynicism over ‘we didn’t see the box’ and that kind of stuff, ‘we don’t know quite what date and quite what price’. I understand that frustration but frankly, a box is a box. Is that really the most important thing?
So right, it wasn’t available to show last night, it wasn’t considered appropriate to show it last night. So what? It’s much more important to see what the damn thing does. The shiniest piece of black, green or purple plastic ever, you know, whatever, so what? It’s not the most important thing.
Gara makes an interesting point, but gamers are concerned about the physical appearance, nothing will change that. And of course, people take to Twitter to complain about it.

Gara remains unconcerned, saying that launching the console itself “isn’t appropriate” and that holding the PS4 back was a strategic decision. All Sony did was whet our appetites, as Gara himself admits.
