HTC One M9 ‘Hima’ arriving in March with company’s first smartwatch

While all the smartphone launch hype is surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Sony Xperia Z4, there are other companies due to out momentous models in the coming months too. Remember the HTC One M8? Well, its successor is coming in March, at least according to Bloomberg.

The HTC One M9 is probably one of the most eagerly anticipated launches of the year and seeing that March is the month for mobile launches, HTC will duly unveil its phone as well as its first smartwatch around the same time as MWC in Barcelona.

It would take a fair effort to outdo its own HTC One M8 as it was a sterling device in its day, featuring many industry-leading features (no less those brilliant front-facing speakers and front snapper). But what would the M9 boast?

According to Bloomberg, a 20MP rear camera along with an UltraPixel front snapper for premium selfies are on offer. Powering all this is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 (the silicon of choice for premium smartphones this year, it seems) and with it comes Dolby 5.1 audio technologies (we’re not too sure if that means five tweeters and a subwoofer in the phone or some type of DAC audio out), which means it should retain the Gearburn Award its predecessor garnered.

HTC may be reviewing the use of the M codename too, with the upcoming flagship allegedly earning the “Hima” moniker.

As for the smartwatch? Scant details suggest that the phone will pair with performance garment company Under Armour‘s fitness service, so expect the watch to enjoy the gym more than sitting behind a desk all day. There aren’t many additional details available at the moment, but expect the story to gather momentum in the coming weeks.
