Breath of the Wild will be last first party Wii U game

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild will be the last first-party title for the Nintendo Wii U, the company reportedly said.

“From a first-party standpoint, there’s no new development coming after the launch of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Polygon.

“We really are at the end of life for Wii U,” he added, while saying they had no immediate plans to end Wii U game sales or online services.

“The ongoing activity from an online standpoint on (Mario) Kart and Splatoon is significant. We’re going to continue to support that.”

Of course, you won’t need to buy a Nintendo Wii U to get in on the Zelda action, as the Nintendo Switch will get the game at launch on 3 March. The Switch version is expected to have better audio and slightly faster loading times.

Nevertheless, the Wii U played host to some fantastic exclusives, including Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Here’s hoping the older console receives a price drop soon…
