The coolest things you can do with the P40 Pro camera [Sponsored]

Huawei P40 Pro camera

The Huawei P40 Pro features a great quadruple-lens main camera setup and intelligent AI that opens up a world of smartphone photography possibilities.

But for those who don’t just want to hear megapixel numbers and hardware specifications, what is the P40 Pro actually capable of?

Here are the coolest things you can do with the P40 Pro’s camera, from unique modes to high-resolution photography.

Monochrome camera mode on P40 Pro

Monochrome mode lets you take black-and-white photos directly rather than needing to use editing software after you’ve taken a photo.

The benefit of this is that it lets you focus on the form, shape, and texture of a scene. You can see which angles and view make for the best monochrome photo.

In this monochrome mode, you can still access the aperture, pro, and portrait modes as well — giving you tons of flexibility within this black-and-white shooting mode.

Slow-motion videos

Slow-motion videos are often challenging to capture, requiring ideal lighting settings and perfect timing.

However, the slow-mo mode on the P40 Pro gives you more flexibility and works in a variety of lighting conditions.

The ultra-slow-motion video on the P40 Pro records 7680 frames per second and plays at 1/256 the actual speed — capturing intricate detail and moments that the naked eye can’t see by itself.

High-res camera mode on P40 Pro

The high-resolution mode on the Huawei P40 Pro switches the camera to its 50MP lens to take a high-resolution shot that you can later print and frame.

It’s best suited for landscape photos or pictures you want to print in a large format. This lets you get all the details you need so that the image doesn’t come out blurry or pixelated.
While the 50MP lens contributes to the other shooting modes, this mode lets you take full advantage of it.

You can also shoot 4K video at 60fps on the Huawei P40 Pro, extending these high-res capabilities to videography too.

Light paintings

The light painting mode has existed on Huawei smartphones for some time. But the P40 Pro’s hardware and enhanced AI continue to improve the mode’s capabilities.

The mode lets you capture light trails easily, keeping your shutter open to capture light changes over time.

It has pre-set modes for traffic light trailers, light graffiti, silky water (such as running streams and waterfalls), and star trails.

Usually you really need to know your way around a camera to capture these types of pictures. But the P40 Pro helps hobbyists and beginners capture these images with only their phone and a tripod.

Dual-View videos

The Dual-View mode on the P40 Pro lets you split your video into both a wide-angle and a zoomed-in view.

These two view angles are displayed side-by-side. While it’s not necessarily a mode you’ll use all the time, it is a unique mode that’s enabled by the phone’s multi-camera setup.

If you’re looking to make a video that’s slightly different and stands out from the rest, Dual-View lets you do this.

AI image stabilisation

AI image stabilisation may seem like it’s not that big of a deal. But it’s incredibly important for low light modes, light paintings, zoomed photos and videos, and sports video recording.

There’s no use having incredible zoom when you can’t get your subject in focus due to the slightest movements of your hands. And recording your jogs or cycling can create shaky videos that don’t capture what you need.

The AI stabilisation included in the P40 Pro camera software helps you make the most of its features without small movements letting you down.

AI photo edits on the P40 Pro camera

One of the most interesting features of the P40 Pro camera software is the AI photo edits and suggestions.

Huawei Golden Snap lets AI scan certain images, especially portraits or moving shots, to suggest enhancements. This goes past filter suggestions.

Golden Snap can remove a passerby in the background of the photo. If a subject blinks, it may suggest an alternative image from the moment before or after you pressed the shutter.

These suggestions will show up in your Gallery images when AI has found a way to enhance your snap.
