Xiaomi Redmi 3 gets priced for South Africa, not as cheap as Redmi 2 Pro

Xiaomi distributor MIA Group (Mobile in Africa) announced earlier this year that the budget-minded Xiaomi Redmi 3 smartphone would be coming to South Africa.

Now, we have a price tag for the device, coming in at R3299 according to MIA’s own website. This is over R1000 more than the Redmi 2 Pro, which came in with a R2000 price tag — so what does the extra cash get you?

The Redmi 3 will be available in gold in South Africa, sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor (octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 cores), 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, expandable via a hybrid SIM slot.

The phone could be the new mobile endurance king, owing to the combination of 5.0-inch 720p display and massive 4100mAh non-removable battery. The latter is 100mAh bigger than the battery found in the larger, more expensive Redmi Note 3.

Other prominent features include a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 13MP f/2.0 main camera and 5MP selfie shooter.

It’s not the only Xiaomi phone brought to SA in recent months, as MIA has also launched the Xiaomi Mi 5 (review), Redmi Note 2 (review) and Redmi Note 3 (review pending!) in the country.
