Is Merc about to unveil an egg-shaped autonomous concept?

Mercedes Benz looks set to unveil something very interesting at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Odd-looking and egg-shaped to be sure, but interesting nonetheless.

The German automaker released a teaser image of the concept vehicle on Facebook and not much else.

There is however some suspicion that the concept might be an autonomous one. According to Jalopnik, that suspicion largely comes from the fact that it’s been testing an autonomous concept with a very similar silhouette in recent months.

Outside of Google, Merc has probably been the global leader in autonomous vehicle tech, especially in its range-leading S Class.

It probably wouldn’t be too much of reach therefore to suggest that certain styling and technology elements from this concept could find themselves in future iterations of the S Class.
