“The charging stations will supplement the stations already installed by BMW across 27 BMW dealerships, at the Melrose Arch Precinct and at BMW’s Head office in Midrand to support the adoption of EVs in South Africa’s urban areas,” the German manufacturer added.
The charging stations use Type 2 connections, which means it works with the BMW i3, BMW i8 and Nissan Leaf. But the stations are also future-proof, ensuring compatibility with unreleased electric cars.
What about plans for the location of the next charging station? The two manufacturers are already working on this…
“The next confirmed charging station site under the MOU in Cape Town is Constantia Village Mall and timing will be confirmed in due course,” the German automaker explained.
The two added that work was underway to bring charging stations to the Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria as well.
