FHM model of the year angers Twitter with K bomb

It seems FHM model, Jessica Leandra dos Santos got a little too vocal on Twitter recently. The self described “glamorous blonde of Mediterranean nationality” opened the floodgates to a Twitter storm of note.

The Twitter furore was caused by a series of tweets:

When dos Santos’ followers and fellow tweeters called her out for the racist tweets, the FHM model of the year last year replied: “Tweeted with anger after an incident last night. Forget it pls, I dnt stand still against sexual harassment, thats all.”

The model also took to her website to formally apologise for her racist remarks, saying her tweet was irresponsible.

“I tweeted rather irresponsibly about an incident, using a harsh and unkind word about the gentleman who had confronted me with sexual remarks and sounds,” she wrote.

In her apology, dos Santos suggests that if people had been there to witness the behaviour of the gentleman in question that perhaps they wouldn’t be as angry about her tweet. However, she does concede that: “It is no surprise that my comment has offended many people and for this, I am apologetic.”

All the tweets in question have since been deleted but the damage is done.

FHM South Africa tweeted its reaction the remarks:

FHM editor Brendan Cooper told Eyewitness News, “We are appalled by Jessica’s moronic, racist tweets. She in no way represents our brand.”

The model has since lost a sponsorship, and a complaint has been lodged against her with the Human Rights Commission.

Nothing wrong with that.Exercising her freedom of speech!

I notice that no-one is commenting on the unacceptable behaviour of the so called “gentleman” that led to Jessica’s response !
His behaviour deserved a punch in the face, black or white ! Interesting that the vast majority of people are condoning his behaviour by only commenting on her unfortunate response. What would you be saying if it was you, your wife, or girlfriend that was spoken to like that ? Yes, I am a man passing these comments !

Reesey, please do not justify racism by calling it ‘freedom of speech’. I do believe you have the notion of freedom of speech confused with that of hate speech. There’s a big difference. Racism is a cruel and hurtful act, It is never okay to refer to someone in a derogatory manner because of the colour of their skin or ethnicity. Coming from a multiracial background having been born in 1989, barely post apartheid, I am very familiar with racism. It saddens me to see that a young woman around my age has inherited these flawed and warped values our country’s government’s predecessors held so dear.

However, I do believe that by exposing and reprimanding these people, our nation continues it’s process of catharsis.

“Racism is man’s gravest threat to man – the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason”

Sheesh, Lifecoach, you’re really missing the point. The point is Leandra’s ugly, savage RACISM. There are many things you can say about someone who is rude or abusive to you. There are many things you can call them. But to use the most vile racist term in the SA lexicon, and then to tweet it, shows an attitude of entrenched hatred that should and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Stop making excuses for her horrible behaviour.

  • Airhead model surprises world with airhead comment, shock and horror follow. Look at the rest of her timeline, it’s a load of juvenile self-centred tosh. All she’s good for is looking hot and posing provocatively…but she doesn’t like the inevitable outcome of all that seductiveness if it comes from a black male. Would she have been as upset had the alleged harasser been white? Probably not. I also doubt she would have said ‘these are the kinds of people who end up raping our kids’. Simply stupid to expose oneself like that.

So – lemme get this straight – racism’s bad but sexism’s cool?

    Oh OK, just checking.

  • Her conduct is not acceptable…. I do not agree with what the man did to her – any uninvited sexual advances should be addressed, however, a racial slur is NOT the first word that comes to mind when thinking of men of that ‘standard’. Particularly in colourful South Africa, she surely could have used a more explitive, accurate words to describe such a douche?
