The world is in mourning following the death of Nelson Mandela. The former South African president and renowned statesman passed away in his Johannesburg late on Thursday night, following a long battle with illness.

It is a mark of the esteem in which the freedom fighter turned statesman was held that sites from across the world paused to mark his passing in some way.
