This gorgeous novel was illustrated using good ol’ Microsoft Paint

My proficiency in Microsoft Paint is unquestionable, especially when I whip out those uncanny two-dimensional stick figures. But while most of us might not use Windows’ default drawing application for any serious Banksy-esque creations, this man did.

Pat Hines has a decade’s worth of experience using Microsoft’s drawing app and put that expertise to good use in his graphic novel, Camp Redblood And The Essential Revenge.

The novel is illustrated exclusively using Microsoft Paint. And at this point you’re probably thinking “uncanny two-dimensional stick figures” again, but nope.

Hines’ work is laced with gorgeous shading, vibrant colours and faces purveying tangible emotion.

Taking to Imgur this week, Hines details his life story, and novel’s story in more detail.

“I suck at Photoshop and other programs, and have worked exclusively in Microsoft Paint for over ten years…I honed my craft working long overnights at a hospital reception desk…” he writes.

The novel itself tells the story of a 1980s summer camp “surrounded by ghosts and monsters…and filled wit goofy campers and counsellors”.

If you’re into that kind of thing, this might be the novel for you.

Neverthelesss, have a look at Hines DeviantArt page for more remarkable Microsoft Paint artwork here.
