The redesigned Samsung Galaxy Fold is already ruined, reviewer reveals
Just when you thought the Samsung Galaxy Fold was ready for its big relaunch, and that all its fragility issues had been solved, TechCrunch goes and publishes proof of the contrary.
The publication’s review unit, after just 27 hours, is already ruined. A large splotch — stuck pixels? — has appeared on the foldable phone’s screen, near the centre of the large, bendable 7.3-inch display.
It’s not as dire as previous defects we’ve seen reviewers publish in April, but it’s definitely not a good look for Samsung.
The Korean company’s set to debut the Galaxy Fold in the US on Friday, and has gone out of its way to warn potential users that it’s as fragile as a soft-boiled egg. That said, this phone does cost nearly $2000.
“There was nothing inside the device while folded. I didn’t get it wet or feed it after midnight, and there’s no visible damage to the laminate layer, so I can’t really say definitively what happened here,” said Brian Heater, TechCrunch’s unfortunate editor.
At this point, it’s not clear what happened to the device. But it is clear that if you plan to buy this phone, you’ll have to treat it like a newborn baby.
