Samsung’s R44k Galaxy Fold is already sold out in South Africa

Well, that was quick. Less than 24 hours after Samsung announced the availability of the Galaxy Fold in South Africa, the device has already sold out.

The company confirmed in a press release on Friday.

“The highly anticipated Galaxy Fold, a new foldable device creating a new mobile category, is clearly a hit with South Africans,” it began.

“The first batch released has already sold out with pre-order sales.

“Samsung South Africa is currently working on increasing stock levels to keep up with demand. Even after a delayed-release, there is clearly an appetite for this pioneering device,” it added.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is the first foldable smartphone available in South Africa, but being a first adopter has come at a steep premium for some.

Buyers forked out in excess of R40 000 to be the first to own the device, more than double the price of the cheapest version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

We’ve reached out to Samsung South Africa regarding the number of devices it brought into the country, and what users can expect to find in the box.

We’ll update this article should we receive a reply.
