Beastly Huawei Nova 5i Pro, the likely Huawei Mate 30 Lite, debuts in China
The Huawei Nova 5i Pro, a device which will likely be available in South Africa as the Huawei Mate 30 Lite, was today launched in China.
The phone features a 6.26-inch display with 2340×1080 resolution. You’re getting IPS LCD tech here, so OLED isn’t yet on Huawei’s budget devices.
Still, the device does pack the Kirin 810 chipset, which also found its way onto the Honor 9X Pro this week.
Joining that chipset is a set of three RAM and storage options: a 6GB/128GB, a 8GB/128GB, and an 8GB/256GB model. All versions get a 4000mAh battery.
And also making its debut on this phone is the new square-camera array trend, soon to be joined by the new iPhone series and Google Pixel 4. We can thank the Mate 20 for this design fad.
The Huawei Mate 30 Lite looks like an absolute monster on paper
The array features a 48MP snapper with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. There’s also a depth sensor, bringing the total number of rear cameras to four — just one short of the Nokia 9 PureView.
Up front there’s a 32MP f/2.0 cutout camera, so it’s a similar primary camera setup to the Honor 9X.
A rear fingerprint sensor also features, along with a microSD card slot, USB-C port, dual nano SIM slots, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
It’ll arrive with Android 9.0 Pie and EMUI 9.1 too.
All in all, this phone sounds like an actual monster on paper, and the price makes it even more attractive.
The cheapest option starts at an equivalent of around R4500, with the most expensive variant just under R6000.
The Mate series should debut in South Africa a little later this year, but it seems that there’s good reason to be excited this time around.
