Uber has been making quite a few moves to cater for businesses, such as the ability to use company credit cards and the introduction of the Uber for Business platform.

Now, the smart cab service has announced UberCentral, effectively being a dashboard that allows businesses to request, manage and pay for their customers’ Uber rides.

The service allows you to make and track multiple rides on one account, complete with billing/reporting in one place. Customers simply receive an SMS with their details, as well as a link to a map with live tracking.

UberCentral allows patients to get to and from their appointments

Uber said the new feature was designed for businesses such as hotels, retailers and car dealerships. The company added that the elderly were already seeing the benefits.

Already in use

“Senior citizens at the Benson Centre in Atlanta used to have to book rides up to two weeks in advance to get around, or depend on a fixed shuttle schedule that left little room for last minute changes. Since the centre started using UberCentral, seniors have enjoyed much greater mobility and independence. The centre books rides on seniors’ behalf so they don’t need to use smartphones, then volunteers call the seniors to let them know their driver’s information and arrival time.”

UberCentral has also been adopted by non-profit health organisation Medstar Health, allowing patients to get to and from their appointments.

“MedStar Health can help provide eligible individuals who have a medical and financial need with reliable transportation within minutes, helping them access the care they need or getting them back home quickly,” Uber explained.

“UberCentral works on any tablet and web browser, and is available beginning today in the US and Canada.”
