Google wants to become a ‘carbon neutral’ hardware company by 2020
In an attempt to make its consumer hardware as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible, Google on Monday revealed a number of eco-friendly goals it has set for itself.
“It’s an ongoing endeavor that involves designing in sustainability from the start and embedding it into the entire product development process,” the company said in a blog post.
With this, Google intends for all its outgoing and incoming shipments to be carbon neutral by 2020, meaning that the company’s hardware will have no carbon emissions.
This includes the likes of its Home smart speakers and Pixel smartphones.
By 2022, all Made by Google products will “include recycled materials with a drive to maximize recycled content wherever possible” as well.
Though the company is aiming to be 100% carbon neutral by next year, the company previously reduced its own carbon emissions by 40% in the 2017-2018 period.
